Jacklin started playing cornet at the age of 11 with The Symington Memorial Silver Band from Belfast. Then in 1985 aged 12 Jacklin joined The City of Belfast School of Music, where she played cornet, under the tutelage of Jack Burch and later Hugh Carslaw.

As she continued her time in the School of Music. Jacklin joined the City of Belfast Youth Orchestra where she went on tour to Southern Ireland.  She then left Symington to join Templemore Band where she became its principal cornet player.

Jacklin went to Grosvenor Grammar School where she was a member of the school orchestra and also sung in the school choir which was world famous under its conductor the late Ronnie Lee O.B.E.
